I hope that these points are easy to use and useful for tiny places:
Corners... Warm.... Task lighting... Solar... Small...
Corners - I always try to put at least a light in 3 corners of a room, and normally 4! High and low if possible is great, - this difference of heights gives a lived in feel (gives dynamism to the space, makes your eyes look about) and the corners being lit gives warmth (dark corners look like cold corners... cold corners can feel bleak).
Warm - If you want to feel comfortable, then this is a good rule for ambient and general lighting: don't go for a higher number than 2700K or 3000K for your LED lightbulb's colour (should be marked on the box or on the lightbulb).
Task lighting - In kitchen and workspaces you can go 3000K or even 4000K if you need a bit of cooler light in order to see properly! If you're right-handed you'll want work light coming in from in front of you, above the workspace and possibly from the left, if left-handed from the front, above and right hand side! You can use forms which not only glow but also have directional light or bigger splashes of light eg an Etheletta Inverse Lampshade mounted on the flush ceiling-wall fitting.
Solar - There are easy to install useful solar panels with battery packs. There are even solar lights which actually work well! Walkers' emergency battery packs with led lighting panels attached can just be set to go on every night, or you can leave them outside on charge and use them indoors when you need to as usb charging points or lights when needed.
Small - In a small house or flat you need small! Doesn't need to be tiny, but a solid little glass globe 10 or 15cm in diameter will probably be able to sit on any floor or table, or even hang high in a corner giving substance and good light without taking up too much space! Our Bell or even the recycled Noodle are great options for casual small and endlessly useful lighting.
